A New Edge for Aviation

A brand new identity and wayfinding system for Air New Zealand’s new industry training school that would reflect the company’s reputation for pushing the boundaries.

The idea for the brand was based around technical precision and creating ‘a new edge in aviation thinking’. We also wanted to simplify the signage that had been cobbled together ad hoc over a number of years. The way-finding and environmental graphics scheme drew on the engineering drawings and exciting new materials that abound in aviation – titanium, carbon fibre and brushed metal – to create an atmosphere that emphasized the quality of the training and the feeling of the students being constantly challenged by leading industry thinking. A scalable signage system was developed to navigate and accompany the journey for people within the organisation.
